Design Guide for Battery Pack Sealing Ring

GM-400 silicone foam is a waterproof sealing material with excellent performance. It has moderate softness, no collapse in thickness after long-term use, and excellent weather resistance and anti-aging performance. Can meet the strict waterproof requirements of new energy vehicle batteries and the waterproof challenges after frequent disassembly. Based on experience, we have the following suggestions for sealing ring design:

  • The recommended compression amount for the material is around 50%, and it is necessary to use gaskets or structures to limit the compression amount;

  • The effective waterproof width is 6mm or more, and the effective waterproof width is the width of the narrowest waterproof edge (the distance from the threaded hole to the inner side);

  • The convex design of the box body and box cover must be bent outward, as bending inward can cause water leakage from the threaded holes;

  • The distance between the threaded holes should be between 80-100mm, and threaded holes should be arranged near the corners;

  • If the rigidity of the box is not sufficient, steel plate pressure strips need to be used;

  • If a limit ring is designed on the box, the opening of the sealing strip should be larger than the outer diameter of the limit ring to avoid the foam being pushed up by the limit ring during assembly and not fitting firmly;

  • The narrowest width of the sealing strip, including the edge width of the sealing strip opening, should be designed to be no less than 4mm. A design that is too narrow can easily cause foam breakage;

  • The corner should be designed as an R angle, as right angles are prone to tearing;

  • The selection of adhesive tape for coordination should use soft and comfortable tape to ensure waterproof performance.
